Registered Office Address: What UK Companies Need in 2026

The rules on 'appropriate address' and how non-residents comply.

The rules

Since March 2024, Companies House requires an 'appropriate address' — a real physical address in the UK that receives mail, has a real person able to sign for it, and where the company can be contacted. PO boxes and unmonitored addresses are no longer allowed.

Why it matters

Companies House can strike the company off the register within 28 days if the address is invalidated. HMRC also mails your UTR and tax notices there — miss those and the tax problems begin.

How Entity Makers solves it

Every UK package includes a compliant London or Manchester registered office plus a service address for directors. All post is scanned to your dashboard within 24 hours, forwarded on request.

Common mistakes

  • Using a residential address that is not yours
  • Using a mail-forwarding-only service (no signing capacity)
  • Using a coworking address without the coworking space's consent
